In September 1983, “A Girl Like Me” was chosen as the best short story by United Daily News of Taiwan.

“A Girl Like Me” represented a breakthrough in Xi Xi’s career, particularly after the United Daily News award. It has remained one of her most frequently read and discussed stories.
