Xi Xi began to work with literary magazines and newspapers, like The Chinese Student Weekly, where her short story “Maria” was first published in 1965.

 In August 1964, Xi Xi worked as an editor of “The Poetry Column” in The Chinese Student Weekly.

In June 1965, Xi Xi won the first prize with her novella “Maria” in the youth section of the 14th writing contest organized by The Chinese Student Weekly.

“Maria” has been republished in Family Diary in 1996, and translated by Eva Hung in A Girl Like Me and Other Stories (1986/1996).
